The teaching of Maths at Dunmore is underpinned by the belief that Maths should inspire, include and challenge children, within a curriculum based on fluency and mastery. Children are given the opportunity to build strong foundations with secure knowledge of the four operations (+-X/) alongside understanding of mathematical concepts involving measures, fractions, geometry and algebra. We use manipulatives and models to strengthen these foundations and develop conceptual understanding. Children are encouraged to use appropriate mathematical language when reasoning and have regular opportunities to solve challenging problems. We strive to ensure that every child becomes a confident mathematician with a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.
