Geography

The intent of Geography at Dunmore is to provide pupils with a range of opportunities to explore and understand the world in which we live and its people. We use our local surroundings in Abingdon, as well as Oxfordshire and the South of England, to give children practical experiences of both human and physical geography. Our engaging curriculum is taught through termly topics designed to give all children a life long curiosity to discover more about our planet. Teachers create meaningful cross curricular links, while also making it explicit to children that they are learning key geographical knowledge and skills. It helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world.

Children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it. Geography is an investigative subject, which develops an understanding of concepts, knowledge, and skills. At Dunmore, our intent, when teaching geography, is to inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and people within it; to promote the children’s interest and understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.
