    Welcome to Year 1!

    About Us

    Our Spain Class team: 

    Mrs Bartholomew teaches on Mondays and Tuesdays. 

    Mrs Jones teaches on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

    We also have wonderful support staff working with us across the week too:

    • Mrs Ward

    We also enjoy music lessons with our specialist teacher, Mrs Scaber. 

    General Reminders
    • Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday, so please make sure your child has a full (named) kit in school on those days. 
    • Please include trainers, leggings or jogging bottoms in your child’s PE kit so that we can go outside as much as possible. 
    • All jumpers and water bottles should be named. Please check labels regularly as the names do fade! 
    • Water bottles, book bags and reading books should come into school every day.
    • Please fill your child’s water bottle with fresh water every day. 
    • In warmer weather, please send your child to school with a hat and apply sun-cream before school, as we are not able to apply it at school. 
    • In colder and wetter weather, please feel free to send your child in with wellies so that they can enjoy the puddles! 
    Homework
    • We send home a reading book every Monday, which is kept for one week. Please ensure your child has their reading record and book in their bag EVERY day, so adults can hear them read in school. 
    • Please try to encourage your child to read at home at least 3 times a week and write in the Reading Journal each time.
    • You can use the questions at the back of the book to check if your child has understood what they have read. 
    • Spellings go home on a Friday, which are always linked to the phonics they learned last week. 
    • We do a spelling check on the following Friday. 
    • Later in the year we will be giving your children Times Table Rock Stars logins. Please encourage your children to play regularly.
    • In year 1 we learn our 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

    Please read our Curriculum Letters so that you can help to support your children's learning.  We publish a new one each term so you can see what your child is learning throughout the year.

    Please practise reading and spelling the Year 1 word list and play games with the sounds on the sound mat.

    Here is our reading and writing treat bag. Who will take it home this weekend for some reading and writing fun?

     

    If your child does bring the bag home, please enjoy looking at and reading the selection of books in the bag and please encourage your child to write some sentences about their weekend with Winnie! Have fun!
