  • Children of the Armed Forces and Service Pupil Premium

    Children of the Armed Forces:

A service child is a person whose parent, or carer, serves in the regular armed forces, or is a reservist, or has done so at any point during the first 25 years of that person’s life.

At Dunmore Primary School, we are linked with Dalton Barracks, which is home to four Regiments of the Royal Logistic Corps. The Regiments provide vital ammunition, fuel and rations to Combat Arms Units on the front-line.

Just under 10% of children at Dunmore Primary School have a parent or carer who serves in the armed forces. Most service children stay at Dunmore Primary School for all of their primary education. The voice of the service child is very important to us, and we have pastoral support available to children and their families, provided by our Family Liaison Officer, who can be contacted via the school office or by emailing: flo@dunmore.oxon.sch.uk

Please follow the link below to our Service Pupil Promise:

    About Us - Little Troopers

There are a number of external charities and support services available for Service families which we work closely with as a school. Little Troopers is a registered charity supporting all children with one or both parents serving in our British Armed Forces (regular or reserve). Army Families Federation - Supporting Army personnel and families worldwide

The Army Families Federation (AFF) is the independent voice of Army personnel and their families. We work to improve the quality of life for the Army family, wherever you are in the world.

Service Families : Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust

Their mission is to fund projects that support delivery of the Nation’s Covenant promise to our Armed Forces, Veterans and their families.

Service Pupil Premium (SPP) is extra funding for schools to support children and young people with parents in the armed forces.

Pupils attract the SPP if they meet one of the following criteria:

    • One of their parents is serving in the regular armed forces (including pupils with a parent who is on full commitment as part of the full-time reserve).
    • One of their parents died whilst serving in the armed forces and the pupil receives a pension under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme or the War Pensions Scheme.
    • They have been registered as a ‘service child’ on the January school census at any point since 2016.
